Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
At Strong Law/Incwell, our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is integral to our identity as a firm. We believe in the power of sustainable development to create lasting change, guided by the visionary principles of Leila Janah, a social entrepreneur whose work continues to inspire us. Leila, who tragically passed away at the age of 37, left behind a profound legacy encapsulated in her belief that the key to ending poverty is not charity, but dignified work. Her philosophy, as articulated in her book "Give Work: Want to end poverty for good?.", shapes our approach to CSR and motivates us to cultivate her legacy for the betterment of all humanity.
1. Partnership with Fonkoze:
Since 2000, we have proudly partnered with Fonkoze, Haiti’s leading microfinance institution. Through this partnership, we have supported microcredit programs that empower vulnerable communities by providing financial tools essential for building sustainable livelihoods. Our involvement with Fonkoze reflects our deep commitment to economic empowerment as a vital step towards breaking the cycle of poverty. Visit website
2. Bintang Beat School in Gambia:
In 2010, we expanded our CSR efforts by founding Bintang Beat School in Gambia, a multifaceted social business designed to uplift the local community. The school not only provides quality education to children but also serves as a microcredit facility for women entrepreneurs, empowering them to start and grow their businesses. Additionally, Bintang Beat School is a cultural hub, offering drumming and dancing programs that support the town and its inhabitants, preserving and promoting local traditions. The school is a testament to the power of female leadership—every teacher is a woman, and the school’s infrastructure includes kitchen facilities and eating spaces, ensuring that students receive both education and nourishment. This holistic approach to community development exemplifies our commitment to creating opportunities that foster sustainable growth and empowerment. Visit website
3. Sponsorship of Groundbreaker Talent:
We are also dedicated sponsors of Groundbreaker, an organization that was presented to us by one of our clients. We choose Groundbreaker because it breaks down barriers and creates opportunities for young women from financially constrained backgrounds in Uganda. Groundbreaker provides comprehensive education in software engineering and professional training, equipping these young women with the skills they need to build dignified and sustainable careers. 100% employment rate!. The impact of this program extends far beyond the individual participants; it creates a ripple effect that benefits their families and communities, fostering economic development and social progress.Visit website / Visit YouTube channel.
Leila Janah: Our Muse and Standard
Leila Janah’s visionary belief in the transformative power of work continues to resonate deeply with us. Her legacy, though cut short, is a beacon that guides our CSR initiatives. We are committed to ensuring that her message—one of empowerment through opportunity—lives on, not just within our firm, but as a guiding principle for all who seek to make a meaningful impact in the world. By embracing her philosophy, we strive to create lasting, positive change, focusing on sustainable development rather than temporary aid.
Through these initiatives, Strong Law/Incwell remains steadfast in its mission to make a meaningful impact on the world by fostering sustainable development, supporting education, and empowering communities. We believe that by giving work, we give hope, dignity, and a future to those who need it most.
